Foxman is a PhD candidate at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism. His research focuses on digital technology, internet and web culture, video games and gamification. He has an MA in Media, Culture and Communication from NYU and a BA in American Studies, Music and Creative Writing from Columbia University.
His report, Play The News: Fun and Games in Digital Journalism is a comprehensive documentation of this world, moving through the history of games in news, all the ways that play features in current journalism, how play is becoming part of some successful newsrooms, the business models in the games industry, and the challenges faced by news organizations who want to adopt games. The final section of Foxman’s report makes recommendations for the industry.
