All-Class Lecture: Participatory Pixels: Opportunities for Innovation and Invention with the Tow Center for Digital Journalism & Brown Institute for Media Innovation
Join Professors Susan McGregor, Emily Bell and Mark Hansen for an introduction to the Tow Center for Digital Journalism and the Brown Institute for Media Innovation. The evening will introduce work from some of the groups supported by Brown and Tow, as well as describing how attendees can get involved in these and future projects. From machine learning tools to uncover official secrecy, to models for a sensor newsroom, our projects explore the intersection between technology and storytelling.
The Tow Center for Digital Journalism supports forward-thinking research projects, events and fellowships with the aim of giving newsrooms, classrooms and scholars recommendations and, where possible, verifiable metrics on the newsroom tools and innovations that best enhance transparency, impact, and effective us of data for journalism.
The Brown Institute for Media Innovation was established in 2012 as a collaboration between Columbia and Stanford Universities with the mission to sponsor thinking, building and speculating on how stories are discovered and told in a networked, digitized world.
