140journos: Building an Alternative News Community in Turkey

May 13, 2015 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Location: Pulitzer Hall, Room 601B
+ Google Map

140journos began its live broadcast on Twitter in early 2012 as an alternative media movement led by three college students with no journalistic background. In three years, 140Journos has created a credible citizen news network throughout Turkey, dedicated to covering under-reported stories, verifying rumors, and providing factual background. Audiences welcome its neutral approach in Turkey, where partisan journalism has become the dominant practice.

140journos co-founder Engin Onder will talk about how the project gathers crowdsourced reports and vets them to provide trustworthy, neutral news coverage. Onder is the co-founder of Enstitü; an Istanbul-based network of creative professionals.

Please join us to hear about the work of 140journos, and its importance as a model for citizen news coverage.  Light refreshments will be served.

RSVP via Eventbrite.
