Using live data streams for analytics is already commonplace in many news organizations, but what about using data streams to drive journalism? Real-time data capture can be an important source for everything from breaking news to investigations.

This hands-on workshop will introduce the basic concepts and hands-on skills for working with data streams using freely available tools and APIs. We’ll also discuss some of the considerations and case-studies for using this kind data capture for journalism.

Workshop leader: Susan McGregor, Assistant Director, Tow Center for Digital Journalism

Note: This workshop is only open to current Columbia Journalism School students. RSVP is required and space is very limited. Attendees who cancel less than 24 hours in advance may be refused participation in future events.
