The Tow Center and Brown Institute are pleased to host the MINDS Innovation Challenge on March 5 at the Columbia Journalism School, which will bring together students and faculty, as well as journalists and technologists to tackle this central question: how can news agencies find new uses for their content?

Teams will have access to text, photo, video APIs and feeds from the AP and the Press Association and present their concept or prototype to the agencies. The top three teams will have the opportunity to present at the 21st MINDS Conference in NYC in mid April, and the winning team gets a trip to London for one week and the chance to present their ideas at AP and Press Association Headquarters in London!

MINDS is a non-profit organization, aimed to support the global digitization of media. MINDS conferences bring together senior management from all relevant areas of the MINDS agencies’ business – top management, strategy, technology, marketing & sales, editorial, multimedia – for opportunities in networking, ideas exchange, and collaboration.

Participation in the MINDS Innovation Challenge is by application only (deadline February 29). Please direct any questions to

Please note: only Columbia University students are eligible to apply.
